With generous support from the Pace Family Foundation, Rwanda Works opened the Gataraga Health Center in Musanze District in August 2011. The model health center provides comprehensive health services to 22,000 local residents, in addition to the thousands of others who seek out the high-quality health services offered at Gataraga.
Gataraga Health Center is set among the breathtaking mountainous region of Northwest Rwanda, and has a main building with a waiting area, consultation and procedure rooms, a laboratory, full maternity ward, hospitalization wing, pharmacy, voluntary counseling and testing and anti-retro vital services for HIV patients, health education programming, and a nutritional center. New hygienically safe push faucets have been installed at every water source at Gataraga Health Center, which will help the facility to conserve water and will reduce the spread of disease among patients and staff.
As in all RW health centers, Gataraga Health Center is a collaborative venture between the local government, the Rwandan Ministry of Health, and The Access Project. From the first day of operations, the Access Project has provided health management advising, coaching, and mentoring to the health center staff.
